As a composer, performer and producer, I have always loved intoxicating, beautiful melodies. My passion is using my diverse musical background to create inspired music that conveys the emotion and essence rooted in these great melodies. My inspiration has come from performing solo classical guitar concerts, with rock bands, salsa bands, world music and jazz combos. This exposure imparted a world music stamp on my original works that’s truly “style-less.” My graduate musical training and teaching also enabled me to explore the roads less travelled in composition. My original works span solo guitar, world music and sync music.
My journey with music began in my native Cuba, flourished in Spain and rose to full maturity in the US where I presently reside. In Cuba I absorbed the rich Afro-Cuban culture and had my first guitar lessons. During my time in Spain, I mastered the Classical and Flamenco guitar techniques. In the US I’ve studied music at the Master’s and PhD levels, as well as composed and produced my first albums. I’ve also had a longstanding love affair with jazz improvisation and cultivated that skill studying with great jazz improvisers. Like Duke Ellington once said: “There are simply two kinds of music, good music and the other kind…”
In my debut album, “Six String Opera,” I created original arrangements of famous opera arias for the solo guitar. Another one of my works, “World Acoustic #1,” is an instrumental World Music project that blends different styles such as Latin, Rock and Jazz by layering different acoustic guitars and Cuban Tres in contrasting tracks to original compositions and cover songs. I also create a diverse range of sync music – even in genres like Metal and Country Trap. My latest album, “Border On Edge,” is a Latin/Mexican album applicable to a desert border Drama, a Drug Cartel or “Narcos” type film or TV series.
I am currently composing, arranging and producing music as well as continuing to master the Classical, Acoustic, Electric and Hindu guitars and the Cuban Tres. I’ll always be a lifelong student and devotee of music.
